Q WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM A CONSULTATION?

Each of our practitioners practises their craft a little differently, depending on which modalities they have studied and their healing philosophy. At Funky Forest Health & Wellbeing our team consists of a holistic dietitian and a naturopath, both of whom are also nutritionists.

Common areas of study include herbal medicine, nutrition, massage, homeopathy and flower essences.

In your first consultation, the presenting complaint – chronic sinus infection, premenstrual syndrome or weight concern – is usually dealt with first. You will be asked questions about when the condition began and what triggers the symptoms.

The health practitioner you choose may check your tongue or irises to gather further information. You will be asked about your diet. Be honest; don’t tell them what you think they want to hear! There is no judgement here.

Your naturopath will cover all bodily systems, from your respiratory tract and musculoskeletal system to bowel health. All our practitioners will ask about your health history, including operations, hospitalisations and a review of your family health history. They will consider your energy levels, quality of sleep and emotional wellbeing. Some of these questions are covered in the pre-consult intake form we ask all clients to fill out before coming to the first consultation.

At the end of the consultation you will be provided with tailor-made directions to follow regarding diet, lifestyle suggestions and herbal or other medicine. It will be made clear why the recommendations have been made and how soon they should start working.

Your health practitioner will be keen to know of your progress between consultations and request updates by email or phone, and may recommend a follow-up consultation/s to ensure you continue moving towards your health goals.

Our team would be more than happy to have a chat with you before making an appointment. You can claim part of the consultation cost on private health insurance. Medicare rebates are available with some conditions when working with our dietitian.

Health funds only cover highly qualified naturopaths or allied health practitioners.

Q WHY WOULD I SEE A NATUROPATH OR HOLISTIC DIETITIAN WHEN I CAN GET ADVICE ABOUT NATURAL PRODUCTS FROM MY HEALTH FOOD STORE?

Our practitioners are university qualified to base recommendations on a diagnosis or probable cause of a problem, rather than symptoms. For example, fatigue can be caused by hundreds of different factors – from sleep disturbance to anaemia to cancer. Our health practitioners consider medical history, mental health, physical exams and appropriate laboratory testing in their assessment to determine what treatment will be the most appropriate, safe and effective. Treatments are individualised and take into account your whole history. A further benefit of consulting a naturopath or holistic dietitian is that your response to interventions and therapies are monitored and adjusted as needed.

Q WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PROFESSIONAL BRAND SUPPLEMENTS AND THOSE I CAN PURCHASE IN THE HEALTH FOOD/GROCERY STORE?

Not all supplements are made alike. They differ in purity of ingredients, freshness of ingredients, bio-availability of ingredients, and whether they include added fillers/binders. We stock herbal tinctures as well as a small dispensary of items that are only available by prescription from a licensed naturopath or dietitian. We have researched and chosen brands that demonstrate superior manufacturing and quality standards. We do not recommend anything we would not take or have taken ourselves.

Q WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NATUROPATHY AND HOMEOPATHY?

Homeopathy is a specific system of medicine that uses diluted potencies of natural substances to stimulate the body to heal itself. Naturopathy is a medical practice that integrates a wide variety of therapies, including homeopathy, to treat the cause of an individual’s symptoms.

Q ARE REBATES AVAILABLE TO HELP COVER THE COST?

Yes, private health and/or Medicare rebates are available depending on which of our practitioners you see. For more information on fees and rebates, visit https://www.funkyforest.com.au/fees--rebates.html
